Natural Gut Strings for Contrabass EADG Set
Natural plain gut strings EADG set for double bass
This is a set of 4 natural plain gut strings for double bass (EADG). Approximately 180cm in length.
Recommended for those aiming for a warm, simple, and rustic sound from around the 1920s-1950s, such as in Country, Hillbilly, Rockabilly, Blues, R&B, Old Jazz, and Gypsy Jazz.
The tension is not high, making it very easy to press down with your left hand and also suitable for slap playing. The characteristic percussive slap sound with rounded edges, unique to plain gut strings, is appealing.
Depending on how you shape the sound, these strings can also perform well in powerful genres like Psychobilly, Neo-Rockabilly, and Rustic.
For pizzicato playing, the ADG strings are fine, but you might feel that the E string could use a bit more tension. Specifically, the outline of the sound becomes blurred and sustain is almost non-existent. (This is unavoidable as it's a thick string with low tension.)
Regarding durability, I have a personal instrument that has had these strings on for nearly 4 years without maintenance, and there have been no particular issues, and it's still in use. I haven't even loosened the pegs when the instrument is not in use. (The lifespan of the strings should have long passed, but as this instrument is used for American vintage music, I don't worry about the generally stated lifespan of strings.)
I believe these are affordably priced for natural gut strings. If you've hesitated due to the price but wanted to try them, please consider them.
