Realism - Chiaki [Lakeside] - Original Japanese Painting

This Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) Lakeside by Chiaki is a masterpiece that beautifully fuses traditional Eastern painting techniques with contemporary sensibility.

The depiction of tree shadows reflected on the water's surface is a realistic approach that leverages the aesthetic of ma (space/interval) unique to Japanese painting, while also pursuing optical accuracy.

The composition is based on the classical rule of thirds, creating a sense of depth with the lake surface in the foreground, the forest in the midground, and the sky in the background. The tranquil representation of the water surface, in particular, embodies the beauty of empty space in Japanese painting, effectively guiding the viewer's gaze naturally into the depths of the artwork.

In terms of color, a gradation of indigo tones forms the main palette, delicately capturing the subtle changes in light during twilight.

The substantial multi-layered framing protects the artwork without compromising its dignity. The beige matting creates a exquisite contrast with the blue tones of the painting, maximizing its serene and meditative beauty.
