This is a chin rest for viola, handmade with a chisel and plane using red rosewood.
Dimensions: Length 12.0 cm, Width 6.5 cm, Height 2.5 cm, Weight 51 grams.
The fittings are made of titanium. The fittings are longer than those for violin chin rests.
The shape is an Old French style.
This type positions the chin over the tailpiece.
The finish is a glass coat finish.
While violin chin rests are common, viola chin rests are less so.
This is a handmade piece by Yuji Matsuoka, a certified member of the Japan Traditional Crafts Association.
