【Special 6+】Wada-jii's Handmade Etchu Fundoshi (Japanese loincloth) - Motivation - High-Quality Red Bleached Cotton - Set of Two
This is a set of two red-dyed Echigo fundoshi (loincloths) made from bleached cotton. The author has put a lot of care into the design, making the maedare (front drape) slightly shorter. The red dye does not contain azo dyes (specific aromatic amines), which can potentially produce carcinogenic substances, so you can wear it with peace of mind.
【Caution】When you first start using it, please wash it separately by hand for a while. The color will stop fading after a few washes, and you will be able to wash it with other clothes.
● Tate-mitsu (vertical part): Length 96cm, Width 30cm, reinforced with a full-circumference fold
● Yoko-mitsu (horizontal part/string): Length 138cm, Width 2cm
● Reinforced with chikara-ito (reinforcement thread) at the intersection of the tate-mitsu and yoko-mitsu
● Size after washing
Tate-mitsu: Length 94cm, Width 30cm
Yoko-mitsu (string): Length 136cm, Width 2cm
● The maedare is cut shorter to match Western-style clothing.
Long maedare goes well with kimonos, but with Western-style clothing, the maedare can get tangled in the crotch, and it may stick out with shorts. The author finds a shorter maedare more practical and stylish in modern times.
● The yoko-mitsu (string) is nearly 140cm long, allowing even those with a larger build to wear it. It is made by dividing 34cm wide bleached cloth into four equal parts and folding it four times, making it a sturdy string. As shown in the photo, it won't loosen if you tie it so that it passes about 10cm below the navel, at the top of the hip bone.
【Reference】The Echigo fundoshi that Grandpa Wada has been using for over half a century was invented in the Edo period. It was the perfect underwear for Japan's hot and humid climate, and was welcomed by Japanese men, surviving for hundreds of years without disappearing. The ones made of bleached cotton are still popular today, offering excellent breathability and moisture absorption, and are a clean and simple traditional health underwear. It is also recommended for those who are concerned about the tightness of elastic bands in pants or briefs, or skin irritation from synthetic fibers. The Echigo fundoshi, with its Japanese spirit, is also a good gift for birthdays, Father's Day, Respect for the Aged Day, and sixtieth birthdays, and is also appreciated by people overseas who are troubled by the heat and humidity, as it is cool and healthy.
This time, in response to the requests of fans, we have carefully crafted an Echigo fundoshi dyed red with the same bleached cotton material as the white bleached Echigo fundoshi that 72-year-old Grandpa Wada currently uses, and named it Kiai (spirit) with the hope for the good health and development of the purchasers. This is a red fundoshi (akafun) that can be called a winning fundoshi, and is especially useful for sixtieth birthday celebrations and a change of pace, so each one is sewn with care.
