Tanzaku December - Looking at the end of the twelfth lunar month (Kankan Rōgetsu Tsuku) - Former Great Virtue Shōshō
This is a short scroll (tanzaku) used in tea ceremony.
It is calligraphy by Zensho (a former Daitoku-ji monk).
There are notes in pencil on the paper wrapper (tōshi) in the fourth photo.
看看臘月盡 (Kankan rōgetsu jin / Miyo miyo rōgetsu tsuku)
This is a Zen phrase for the end of December (Rōgetsu), the end of the year. It is a Zen phrase that prompts one to ask oneself if they have been idly passing time as time flies by and the year is coming to an end, and to consider living each day with care.
Thank you for your consideration.
