[Description]
The Sado City Manhole Card Vol. 8 features the former Ryotsu City.
The manhole cover design for the Ryotsu area was chosen through a public competition in 1997 and was designed by a 14-year-old boy at the time. Squid, the city fish of the former Ryotsu City, are arranged like the Mitsudomoe crest, symbolizing Sado's traditional performing art, Ondeko (demon dance). Facing a long coastline and blessed with abundant fishing grounds, including the brackish lake Kamo-ko, the Ryotsu area is rich in delicious seafood such as squid in the summer and tuna, yellowtail, and oysters in the winter. As the gateway to the island, it continues to welcome tourists today.
