Kasuga Flat Mandolin M-30 with Clip Pickup and Hard Case!
Immediate purchase is welcome! This is a Kasuga Gakki M-30 flat mandolin. Nut width: approx. 28.9mm. String height at the 12th fret with strings 09-13-20-32 (2 of each) installed: 1st string: approx. 1.1mm, 4th string: approx. 1.3mm. It is playable in its current condition, but there are some issues. First, the tailpiece cover and endpin are missing. There is a hole drilled through the heel of the neck, apparently for a strap. There is a repaired crack from near the bridge on the 1st string side to the f-hole. The crack appears to be glued and stable, but it's not a professional repair, so its future is uncertain. Flat mandolins typically do not have a soundpost, but to reduce stress on the cracked area, 16mm maple pieces (originally drumsticks) were inserted on the 1st and 4th string sides. The top's rigidity also felt a bit weak (possibly due to poor tone bar adhesion?), so they were installed to wedge between the tone bar and the back plate. They can be easily removed by loosening the strings. The neck joint was slightly lifted, so I attempted to adjust it with the truss rod. However, a 6mm wrench did not fit securely, so I gave up on rod adjustment and filed the frets to achieve the current state. The rod nut size is peculiar; I considered making a new one, but fret filing worked, so I didn't pursue it. While the rod itself couldn't be turned perfectly, there was a slight resistance, and it felt like it tightened a tiny bit. It might be effective if tightened with a wrench of the correct size. A 6mm wrench was too large, so something around 5.5-5.7mm might work. Alternatively, you could remove the rod nut and make a new one. This instrument is worth the effort. Both the body and neck are made of good materials, and the overall construction is solid! A Korg clip-on piezo microphone is included. I tried attaching it to the headstock, but found it worked best sandwiched under the bridge height adjustment nut, as shown in the images. Please secure the microphone body and cord to the mandolin body with masking tape or similar. A hard case is included, though it is quite worn. Thank you for your consideration!
