Vintage Silk Rayon Scarf Red Navy Blue Mod Floral Hand Rolled Japan 29" Square
Vintage square scarf in a bold two-color Pop floral, printed in bright red against deep navy blue with oversized blooms that run right off the edge of the design and a navy border framing all four sides. The graphic reverses across the scarf so the reds and navies trade places from one bloom to the next, which gives it real presence worn open or knotted. It measures approximately 29 inches square. The scarf is a rayon and silk blend, 70 percent rayon and 30 percent silk, with hand rolled edges finished in red. The original label reads 70% Rayon, 30% Silk, Hand Rolled, Made in Japan, WPL 13407. WPL numbers in this range were registered with the Federal Trade Commission in the late 1950s, and the graphic style of the print places this piece in the 1960s to 1970s. Japanese-made hand rolled scarves from this era are prized for the quality of the rolled hem, which is stitched by hand rather than machine finished. This scarf works as a neck scarf, head scarf, hair tie, or bag accent, and the scale of the print also makes it a strong candidate for framing. Measurements are approximate.
