Mega Jul Edelrid
Purchased 2-3 years ago, but never used.
The Edelrid MEGAJUL II is a unique all-around belay device that boasts incredible lightness (only 75g) and a compact size, suitable for top belaying, second belaying, and rappelling.
A standout feature is its unique assisted braking function. When a fall or tension occurs, a proprietary system locks the carabiner by biting into the rope within the device's grooves (see image). During a lead climber's fall, it seems to lock naturally with some give. (Not as abrupt as a Grigri). Of course, you should never let go of the rope, but as long as tension is applied, it locks very securely, making it significantly more reassuring and safer than traditional ATC-type devices. This feature provides peace of mind for less strong climbers, those with significant weight differences, and more. The lock is released by pulling the yellow-green resin lever with your thumb.
The device includes illustrations for top and second belaying. The body is made of stainless steel for high durability. Compatibility with carabiners may vary, so confirmation is recommended.
