Authentic Oshima Tsumugi Silk Haori with Tiger Lining / Silk Tiger Haori

This traditional Japanese haori (羽織) features a hidden design of two powerful, roaring tigers.

This vintage men’s haori is a piece of wearable textile art.

The outer fabric showcases a finely woven kasuri pattern (絣) made from Oshima Tsumugi silk (大島紬), dyed a deep brown using iron mordant (鉄媒染). From afar, the haori appears calm and understated, but a closer look reveals intricate weaving and refined craftsmanship.

Inside, a dramatic double tiger artwork (虎図・羽裏) adorns the lining. The composition, balance, and expressive brushwork are beautifully executed. In Japanese culture, the tiger symbolizes strength, courage, and protection.

The contrast between the subdued exterior and the bold interior makes this piece truly striking.
