Compatible with shoes without a welt. It has been used and has scratches and dirt, but it is still usable. I used it on a snowy mountain just the other day and had no problems.
The rubber plate prevents snow from getting stuck between the shoe and the crampon, making it comfortable to use. Also, the thick teeth provide a secure grip.
