▽Features of the FH-750▽
[3 Rotary Valves]
The F single horn has 3 rotary valves and is not a system with special switching capabilities. Some players prefer the simple playing feel of an F single horn and insist on using it. For other J.Michael horns, there are B♭ single horns with 4 rotary valves and double horns, which do have switching capabilities. Double horns switch between the two keys the instrument possesses. The B♭ single horn has an A slide, called a Gespiel key. Gespiel refers to a unique playing technique for the horn used to alter the tone. By lightly covering the bell with the right hand while playing, a muffled, softer tone (half-mute) that is a semitone lower than the normal pitch can be produced. However, changing the tone also changes the pitch, which requires using alternative fingerings (different fingerings) to compensate. This switching mechanism allows for playing with standard fingerings. Not everyone needs this system, and playing ability can compensate for its absence. However, it can be convenient to have when sheet music specifically requires this technique, as it allows for smoother performance.
[Fixed Bell]
Bells come in two types: fixed (one-piece) and detachable (two-piece). Detachable bells can be removed, making them more compact and convenient for transport, and allowing for smaller cases. Beyond just being removable, there is also a difference in tone. The fixed type has a bright tone, while the detachable type has a deeper tone with better tonal cohesion.
