◆Red Shell [Out of Print]

Pitchfork Rating: 7.8

★The 6th album from the Japanese-American artist who became an indie star after the hit of his previous work, Be The Cowboy.
The diverse songs, centered around a synth-oriented sound, are noteworthy for their uniqueness in consciously aiming for a broader appeal beyond the indie scene without easily approaching the mainstream.
While approaching drone psych and emphasizing his inherent melancholy, it's worth noting that a majority of the songs are danceable, born from the reason that I needed to make uplifting songs, perhaps influenced by the pandemic. Among them, Should've Been Me, which blends Motown sound essence with 80s electro-pop, seems to be a significant achievement in foreshadowing further developments.
