Karen Dalton, one of the most mysterious and enigmatic artists in the music world. This is a newly remastered release celebrating the 50th anniversary of her second album, released in 1971.
Born in Oklahoma (1937-1993), Karen Dalton was a musician who stood out from her contemporaries with her unique worldview and vocals, characterized by her banjo and 12-string guitar. In the early 60s, she was based in the Greenwich Village folk scene, performing traditional numbers and blues standards, as well as covering songs by contemporary artists such as Tim Hardin, Fred Neil, and Richard Tucker, whom she would later marry.
Bob Dylan, instantly captivated by her, said in Chronicles, My favorite singer was Karen Dalton. Karen had a voice like Billie Holiday and played guitar like Jimmy Reed.
The album was produced by bassist Herbie Brooks, who also played on her first album. Brooks, who described himself as simple, solid, and cooperative, understood Karen's process while gently encouraging her and pushing the boundaries of her creativity. In contrast to her previous work, this album features a more pop-oriented and fulfilling arrangement with the participation of many talented studio musicians.
The bonus tracks include three alternate takes from the In My Own Time sessions, as well as nine songs, including six previously unreleased tracks from her 1971 European tour, featuring performances at the Montreux Golden Rose Pop Festival and Germany's Beat Club.
