Celebration Kimono / Happi Coat

US Size:

This is a happi coat worn during the Tatemae ceremony when a house was built.

Tatemae is an event where the builders, carpenters, and others involved in the construction celebrate with food and sake.

This coat was given to the seller by a carpenter acquaintance (possibly an individual) after the Tatemae ceremony.

It appears to have not been worn since then (the collar and cuffs are clean).

The collar has the name 望津喜 (old character form) written on it. This is said to be the carpenter's name, Mr. Mochizuki.

The character 望 (Nozomu) is on the back.

There is a hook on the front collar.

There is some discoloration on the white part of the 望 on the back, likely due to aging. Please refrain from purchasing if this is a concern.

Thank you for looking.
