UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. In Japanese, it is called 紫外線保護指数 (Shigaisen Hogo Shisu).
While SPF and PA are listed on sunscreen, UPF is displayed on clothing and indicates how well the garment protects against UV rays.
The ratings are divided into three categories: 15-24, 25-39, and 40-50+. Higher numbers indicate a greater ability to block UV rays.
UPF 50 means that the clothing blocks UV rays down to 1/50th, meaning it cuts 98% of UV radiation.
