Pair Antique Port Dundas Glascow Stoneware Ginger Beer Bottles Varied Lips CORKS
Both Scottish stoneware ginger beer bottles, dating from about 1885–1905 and made by the Port Dundas Pottery Company of Glasgow, feature a uniform buff Bristol glaze as well as retaining its original period corks. The earlier 8.75-inch grooved-lip Victorian example (circa 1885–1895) includes an indented collar for wire fastening and a crisp three-tier oval stamp reading “PORT-DUNDAS / GLASCOW / POTTERY COY.” with the collectible regional spelling. The later 9-inch smooth-lip bottle (circa 1895–1905) reflects the transition to automated corking and is unstamped, as was typical. Both show expected 19th‑century kiln flaws; the smooth-lip bottle is fully intact, while the grooved-lip bottle has a chip beside the maker’s mark that does not affect stability and underscores its working history.
