Imperial Purple is a dye obtained from the purple gland of a shellfish of the Muricidae family, which turns purple when exposed to sunlight. It took 2,000 shells to obtain 1 gram of the dye. Therefore, it was a very rare and expensive dye, and in ancient times, only emperors and nobles were allowed to use it, hence it was called Royal Purple or Imperial Purple, and was a symbol of authority and wealth.
