Antique 1908 Amerika Mettlach Beer Stein 1526 Stoneware Mercury German American
Antique Villeroy & Boch Mettlach “Amerika” Transfer Decoration PUG Stoneware Beer Stein Mug German- American Souvenir 1/2 Liter Mold # 1526 and the date code looks like “08” as in 1908 OR “80” as in 1880. This fits the Mercury Ink stamp reference of 1874-1909 I’m also using a pen to point it out in photo #5 Good condition for the age- no major chips or cracks *** It has stains inside, see photos *** It’s the “Amerika “ cursive script transfer and glossy that makes it intriguing. It’s not as elaborate as most steins but is so unique and more of a tavern mug. It will definitely be a conversation starter! This does NOT come with a lid. Personal note I don’t know the history because I inherited this from my grandmother who owned a restaurant/bar (with a German name) from the 1940s-90s and customers would bring her interesting trinkets to display. I believe she held onto it due to the alternative spelling of “Amerika” In my research it could have been from the SS Amerika/ Hamburg America Passenger Liner, a going away gift for people heading to the US or for the German community in America.
