Incubation Vandoren Soprano Saxophone Reeds
I changed the reed strength during the incubation process, so the box has been opened, but the reeds have not been played.
The Ziploc bag is unopened.
Soprano Saxophone Reeds
Vandoren Traditional (Old Box)
Strength 3 1/2, 10 reeds
Includes Boveda 72% humidifier.
[What is Incubation?]
This is a new generation reed conditioning method devised by Bradford Behn of BEHN, a US mouthpiece manufacturer.
Incubation involves placing reeds in a high-humidity environment for an extended period, gradually hydrating and shaping the cane fibers.
This innovative method allows reeds to be grown simply by leaving them untouched, without playing them.
Not playing them means there is no deterioration from playing. This method ensures more consistent and higher quality conditioning than traditional methods.
Reeds that have undergone incubation will perform at their maximum potential, vibrating lively and naturally. They last longer, and there are fewer duds. They can even be used for performances on the same day.
If you rotate reeds that have been incubated, you can use them in excellent condition for about a month.
The only drawback is that the incubation process itself takes over two months. However, if you plan ahead and start the process, you will always have reeds ready to play at their best.
