[What is Incubation?]

Incubation is a new generation reed conditioning method developed by Bradford Behn of BEHN, a US mouthpiece manufacturer.

Incubation involves placing reeds in a high-humidity environment for an extended period, gradually hydrating the cane fibers and shaping them.

This innovative method allows reeds to mature simply by being left untouched, without being played.

Not playing them means there is no deterioration from playing. This method ensures more consistent and higher quality reed maturation than traditional methods.

Reeds that have undergone incubation will reach their full potential, vibrating lively and naturally. They last longer, and there are fewer duds. They can even be used for performances on the same day.

By rotating incubated reeds, you can maintain them in excellent condition for about a month.

The only drawback is that the incubation process itself takes over two months. However, by planning ahead and starting the process, you can always have perfectly matured reeds ready to play.
