For Porco Only: YAMAHA YCR-332 Imperial Cornet

US Size:

This is an American-type long cornet that uses a rose brass bell (red bell), which is extremely difficult to obtain today.
The short cornet, which is now mainstream, is for brass bands and is an instrument for covering woodwind parts. When cornet parts are present in the sheet music for Sousa or Reed's wind bands, it is assumed that a long-type cornet will be used.
This instrument is a model that was in the lineup when YAMAHA partnered with the American company Schilke. The use of an expensive rose brass (brass with a copper content of 90% or more) bell produces a rich, thick, and soft sound with abundant overtones. The long type has a playing feel relatively close to a trumpet, so trumpet players can switch to it without feeling awkward when specified in the sheet music.
Currently, there is no domestic distribution of YAMAHA long cornets; they are only for export to the United States.
This instrument has been customized in our workshop to maximize the potential of the YCR-332.
The 1st slide has been rebuilt to a reverse configuration, and a ring-type thumb hook has been attached. The thumb hook not only allows for pitch correction during performance but also prevents the vibration of the tubing from being suppressed by directly gripping the valve casing.
The finger ring on the 3rd slide, which was a school equipment specification, has been replaced with a fixed type. This allows for precise slide operation.
A holder for a lyre (music holder), essential for marching, has also been added.
The Imperial model has sufficient capabilities for advanced players, but it has some cost-saving measures for students. This instrument focuses on implementing those omitted parts through customization. Please refer to the photos and specifications for an overview of the customization.
