In late Qing Dynasty China, suffering from British opium smuggling, Lin Zexu, appointed to oversee opium control, asks the doctor and martial artist Wong Fei-hung (Gordon Liu) for cooperation in eradicating it. Meanwhile, in the wealthy So family, the son-in-law (Ng Man-tat) who lost his wife, his late wife's sister, and their only son Chan (Donnie Yen) live together. Chan continues his kung fu training under the Beggar King. One day, Chan causes many injuries in a commotion involving the Fire Lotus Cult, a heretical sect that deceives people. Wong Fei-hung, who happens to be present, urges Chan to apologize, but Chan, instead of apologizing, develops a rivalry with the admired Wong. Chan's father, Man-tat, searches for a bride for Chan, finding Yi (Fiona Yuen), who returned from overseas, teaches English, and publishes a newspaper. However, the situation becomes entangled with Chan, Yi's father, and the Fire Lotus Cult over opium...
♥This is an early work of Donnie Yen! He plays a rich and rather selfish son, and you can see him dealing with opium addiction and a Drunken Fist interpretation in his style! (^^)/
