In The Attic by Hiawyn Oram/ Satoshi Kitamura
Vintage 1988 In the Attic Satoshi Kitamura Illustrated Children’s Picture Book
A beautifully illustrated vintage children’s picture book by acclaimed Japanese illustrator Satoshi Kitamura, with text by Hiawyn Oram. In the Attic follows a bored little boy who climbs into his attic and discovers an imaginative hidden world where ordinary objects transform into surreal adventures. The illustrations are the standout feature here. Nearly every page is done as a cinematic full spread with Kitamura’s instantly recognizable style — dreamlike perspectives, deep atmospheric spaces, oversized objects, surreal transitions, and expressive little details hidden throughout the scenes. This copy is especially appealing for collectors of Satoshi Kitamura’s early work, Japanese illustrators, imaginative children’s books, and visually rich picture books from the 1980s. So while the story and illustrations date to 1984, this particular copy appears to be a first Henry Holt paperback edition from 1988, which is desirable for collectors, though not the original hardcover first edition. Condition: Fair vintage condition. Front upper corner has a partial tear with heavy creasing visible on the cover corner area. General reading wear, light stains/spots, edge wear, and signs of age/use throughout. Interior pages remain intact and artwork still displays beautifully with strong color saturation. Please review all photos and video carefully, as they are part of the description. Size: 9 inches tall 8 inches wide Approximately 0.38 inches thick NPK(psh)-
