This is a lattice pattern that originated from the costume worn by Kabuki actor Kikugoro Onoe III on stage.

It is created by arranging four vertical and four horizontal stripes, and five vertical and five horizontal stripes, with the characters Ki and Ro placed in between, reading Ki Kyu Go Ro.
