Hakutakudo: Established in the 3rd year of the Kyōhō era.
In the 3rd year of the Kyōhō era (1718), a shop selling fans for temples was opened under the trade name Kanaya Magobei in front of Nishi Honganji Temple.
Later, the business began manufacturing and selling Kyoto folding fans for general use and as gifts. The trade name Hakutakudo was bestowed by Tomioka Tessai, a master of modern Japanese painting.
Proposing to the times without being bound by tradition.
We offer a wide range of products, from beautiful Kyoto folding fans to modern design fans adorned with lace and embroidery, as well as popular birthday fans (hand-painted fans for every day of the year), many of which are exclusive to our main store.
Our main store also offers Etsuke (painting) experiences where you can draw your own pictures, and experiences with the traditional Japanese game Tosenkyo.
A fan that spreads out like a fan.
Since ancient times, fans have been considered auspicious. In addition to their practical use for cooling down, they also symbolize spreading out.
When opened, fans allow you to enjoy their patterns, colors, and designs, and when closed, they become compact and convenient to carry.
Hakutakudo aims to create shining products by incorporating new trends into tradition.
