This traditional craft from Aomori Prefecture, Tsugaru lacquerware, features a durable lacquer finish (such as Tō-nuri or Nanako-nuri) with mother-of-pearl from abalone and turban shells embedded within. The rich, mottled lacquer and the iridescent sheen of the shells combine to create colors that change depending on the viewing angle.
