【Exquisite Specimen】Agocloris diana (Giant Flower Mantis) Insect Specimen, Orthoptera, Mantis
Scientific Name: Anostostoma australasiae
Common Japanese Names: Agokorogisu / Daiokurogirisu
Common English Names: Giant King Cricket or Australian King Cricket
The genus Anostostoma is the type genus of the family Anostostomatidae and comprises five species endemic to Australia.
They are closely related to weta, a group of insects endemic to New Zealand.
Weta found in New Zealand, such as Hemideina, are primarily herbivorous, feeding on leaves, fruits, and flowers, but they may also scavenge on the carcasses of recently deceased invertebrates. The terrestrial weta, Anderus maculifrons, feeds on various invertebrates found in forests.
King crickets found in Australia include generalist scavengers that consume various carrion and decaying matter, specialized feeders (for example, Exogryllacris feeds on fungal fruiting bodies growing on fallen logs), and predators of other invertebrates. There are records of Australian king crickets preying on funnel-web spiders.
We are no longer accepting new pinning orders.
This specimen is a work by insect taxidermist Takaki Fukui, featuring impeccable pinning with no cotton leakage in the abdomen, no creasing in the bellows, and antennae forming a natural arch, making it a divine pinning.
We will ship the pictured female specimen collected from Tamborine Mountain, Queensland, Australia. It was collected in March 2018.
My measurement indicates a body length of 85mm including the ovipositor.
I believe this is a rare, extra-large size.
We apologize, but we cannot guarantee against grade reduction due to shipping.
