[Features]
Domestic Sakaki
In fact, over 90% of the Sakaki offered at Shinto altars in Japan are imported. Compared to those, the difference in deep green color, luster, presence of insect damage or scratches is immediately apparent.

[Uses]
Since ancient times in Japan, Sakaki has been used to decorate sacred spaces and perform Shinto rituals. This is because in Shinto, plants with pointed leaf tips are believed to be yorishiro (objects in which the gods dwell) for the gods. Furthermore, because its lush green leaves grow throughout the seasons, it is said to represent the inexhaustible blessings of the gods.
In modern times, offering Sakaki at a Shinto altar is also believed to be for inviting the power of the gods and expressing gratitude for their blessings.

[Replacement Period]
Sakaki is replaced with new ones twice a month, on the 1st and 15th. This originates from Tsukinami-sai, a Shinto ritual praying for the peace and prosperity of the nation. Also, if the Sakaki becomes damaged or withered before the 1st or 15th, replace it promptly instead of leaving it as is.
