Echizen lacquerware is a traditional technique born from such an environment. ●

Otosō (toso), which is indispensable for celebratory sake during the New Year, is medicinal sake to ward off evil spirits for the year.
The three stacked cups, large, medium, and small, are passed around. You take the top cup, drink the otosō,
turn it upside down on the tray, and the next person takes the cup that is now on top.
When guests visit at the beginning of the year, it is customary to first celebrate with otosō after the greetings are exchanged.
