⑦ [Mame Bonsai Material] Extra Small Variety! Gokihime Sanyo Rose
Type: Wild Rose
Rooting confirmed.
The leaves and flowers are small, so I think it would be cute as a miniature bonsai.
A multi-trunk or aerial root style would suit it well.
[Shipping Information]
Will be shipped via 4th class mail.
Soil will be slightly reduced and kept moist for shipping.
[My Notes for Cultivation Reference]
~Soil~
The parent plant is managed in 100% Akadama soil, and since it's very healthy, it seems good to plant it in Akadama.
~Fertilizer~
I use chemical fertilizer.
It seems to do better when fertilized.
~Watering~
Twice a day in the morning and evening during summer.
In winter, water thoroughly when the soil dries out.
If it gets too dry, the leaves will fall off, so it's a good idea to cover it with sphagnum moss during periods of extreme dryness.
~Flowers~
Looking at the parent plant, it seems that flowers bloom on the previous year's branches rather than on young shoots that sprouted in spring. Therefore, I expect flowers like the ones in the photos to bloom around May to June next year.
~Pruning~
It is strong against pruning.
Many elongated shoots (shoots) grow from the base of the trunk, so remove any that grow in unwanted directions early on. If left unpruned, old branches will wither.
Pruning along the desired outline will cause new buds to sprout from the base of the leaves, increasing the number of branches.
*If you plant the pruned shoots, cuttings have a high success rate.
~Key Points~
Paying attention to the following two points will result in a beautiful multi-trunk shape:
① Prune branches (shoots) that grow parallel to the ground and keep only those that grow upwards.
② For overly long branches, prune them back before the leaves to the desired size. New branches will grow from the base of the leaves immediately after pruning, allowing for branch shaping.
