Ogatama Tree Seeds
Collected in 2025 from an Obata tree.
This tree belongs to the Magnolia genus and grows into a large, rugged tree. It is often planted at shrines and serves as a sacred tree.
Its flowers are small and not as conspicuous as those of magnolias or kobushi magnolias. The third image shows fallen petals.
It is a food source for the Kaiser's Swallowtail butterfly.
The Obata tree is also known as the spirit-inviting tree and is considered a lucky tree that brings good fortune.
Its fruit, similar to that of kobushi and magnolias, is bumpy and plump, tinged with a light pink. As it ripens, it splits open to reveal pink seeds.
Over time, the color changes from pink to brownish.
Crows seem to favor these fruits, often dropping them whole and skillfully extracting and eating the young fruits.
As these are collected from nature, they are listed as slightly dirty.
These were collected by an amateur during a walk. I do not know details such as germination rates. I also cannot provide detailed advice on sowing, so please understand. Information is available on various websites, so it is best to research it yourself. (Apologies...)
Flower remnants may not have been completely removed.
Please refrain from purchasing if you are looking for a perfect item. Thank you for your understanding.
