iittala Sketch Brown Poster
Oiva Toikka Collection

The design sketch poster for the Aalto vase has been reissued. The Aalto Series won the Kalhula-iittala design competition in 1936. Compared to the decorative objects of the time, its simple yet organic and curved form was revolutionary. It is said to be one of the most famous glass works in the world and a symbol of Finnish design. The art poster is a reproduction of the rough sketch drawn by Alvar Aalto himself when he entered the 1936 competition. The actual sketch was drawn with pencil, pastel, and paint, and some parts (white areas) had tracing paper applied. The Aalto Series has various shape variations. The brown version appears to depict a tall Aalto vase.
