Beautifully Balanced Wallace's Giant Bee Specimen
Scientific Name: Megachile pluto
Common Names: Wallace's Giant Bee, Wallace Giant Bee
This insect is known as the world's largest bee.
It was thought to be extinct, with no sightings since 1981, but was rediscovered in 2019.
It lives by creating compartments using resin from the Dipterocarp plant Anisoptera thurifera within the nests of a termite species (Microserotermes amboinensis).
We will ship the individual pictured from Jailolo, North Maluku Province, Halmahera Island.
I measured it at 48mm.
Please understand that we cannot offer guarantees against downgrades due to transport or for death upon arrival. It was collected in March 2025. I believe it is a very beautiful specimen.
