The leaves are purple-black, and the cut leaves give a refreshing impression. The white-pink flowers bloom from April to May. This is a very hardy elderberry that prefers full sun. It produces black berries in the fall.

It thrives in fertile soil with good drainage, rich in leaf mold and compost. While it's not picky about soil type, it is susceptible to drought, so water thoroughly when the surface of the soil dries out. It has strong cold tolerance down to -35°C and is also heat tolerant.
