Dono-ko
Contents: Approx. 20g x 2
Used as a material for urushi crafts and kintsugi. When mixed with water and then with urushi lacquer, it forms a putty used to fill chipped areas in kintsugi.
Also used as a pore filler for wood finishing. This is a finely ground powder that dissolves easily in water and penetrates wood grain. This product is a repackaged red dono-ko from Yamashina, Kyoto.
The natural color of the raw material is used without any added pigments. This product uses a type called kiriko, which is made by re-powdering finished dono-ko.
The raw material for dono-ko is extremely weathered rock formed from slate and shale. The raw material turns yellowish-brown due to weathering. By utilizing the variation in color based on the speed of weathering, red, white, and yellow dono-ko are produced.
