Hon-yaki Yanagiba Knife, 9 inches (approx. 27cm)
I'm selling this knife because I have too many and need to declutter.
This is a 9-sun hon-yaki yanagiba knife.
I purchased it as deadstock from several decades ago.
The handle has been replaced with ebony.
I've used it for about 2 years, so there is some wear from sharpening, but the ura (back) and shinogi (ridge) are still solid, and I believe it can be used for a long time to come.
It has a wavy hamon (temper line), and the blurred transition at the edge of the ura hamon suggests it might be a mizuyaki (water-quenched).
The steel type is unknown, but it sharpens easily, so I suspect it might be Shirogami #2 (White Paper Steel #2).
The cutting edge and edge bevel have been finished with natural whetstones.
Blade length: Approximately 9 sun (just under 27cm) from the heel
Blade thickness: Approximately 4.1mm at the heel, tapering to approximately 2.3mm near the end of the shinogi at the tip.
Blade width: Approximately 32mm near the heel.
