Suzuya All-Steel Aided Deba Knife - Used, Refurbished Custom Item
Suzuya All-Steel Deba Knife
Searching for Suzuya online, I found it listed as a high-end knife specialty store in Tokyo on a directory-style page.
The handle is made of buffalo horn, so I believe this is one of their knives.
I re-sharpened this knife, which originally had a chip, starting with a 220-grit whetstone and progressing through 400, 1000, 3000, and 8000 grit.
The steel was hard, but as I sharpened it with an edge angle, the tip felt a bit too thin, so I added a micro-bevel.
Although it's fading, there's an inscription indicating special steel. I believe this refers to an alloy steel similar to Yasuki's blue or silver steel. However, based on my sharpening experience, the steel is hard and rust-resistant, suggesting it might be a stainless steel type.
The burr was tenacious, similar to VG10, but the sharpness suggests it's not VG10. It seems to be a steel that prioritizes corrosion resistance and edge retention more than VG10.
To improve sharpness, I created a hollow grind on the back, which was originally flat, and applied a back bevel. While it didn't reach VG10 levels, it achieved a decent sharpness.
The tang is secured with a rivet, which was already present when I acquired the knife. Judging by its condition, it seems to be from the manufacturing process rather than a repair for looseness.
Since the steel is rust-resistant, it would be great for fishing trips or other outdoor activities.
This sharpening is a hobby, so it's not perfect. There may be sharpening scratches. Please be aware of this in advance. I plan to ship via Nekoposu.
