Chabudai (low dining table) - Showa vintage, wooden, rare vermilion lacquer, foldable
This is a rather rare Chabu-dai (table), a traditional Japanese round low table.
Size: Approximately 90 cm in diameter (please allow for slight errors as this is a manual measurement).
Key Features and Design:
The tabletop is round and finished with a deep lacquer coating. A unique feature is the square joint (patch) in the center.
Historical Background:
Chabu-dai were widely used in Japanese households from the Meiji period to the mid-Showa period. They served as the central piece of furniture in Japanese-style rooms (washitsu) where families would gather to eat or work.
Functionality:
Many traditional Chabu-dai have foldable legs, allowing them to be stored away and maximize space when not in use.
This item was used in a Kominka cafe, contributing to a nostalgic Japanese atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa Retro and Taisho Roman eras, alongside other elements such as dark or red lacquered Tansu (Japanese chests), retro green rotary dial telephones, and tatami mats.
This is an antique item that has developed a good patina and is perfectly functional. However, as it is an old item, there is some age-related wear. Therefore, those seeking a pristine condition item are advised to purchase a new one.
This item is used and is sold in the condition shown in the photos. We recommend this item to those who can appreciate its unique character and charm.
