■Product Description■
Use: Cutlery used for slicing and serving cakes, pies, tarts, etc.
Design: The delicate openwork carving (filigree) on the server is a prominent feature, often depicting floral motifs, plants, or traditional patterns.
Material: Items with similar designs are commonly made from silver (sterling silver), silver plate (silver-plated), or brass.
Style: This style is often seen in Victorian or German antique designs, with those featuring rose motifs, such as the Hildesheimer Rose, being particularly popular.
■About RODD■
Made by RODD, a long-established cutlery brand from Australia.
RODD manufactured high-quality silver-plated (EPNS) products from the 1920s to the 1990s, with their floral series like Camille and Nemesia being especially popular.
If the hallmark reads RODD Gold Plated, the cake server is generally considered to have been made between the 1960s and 1980s.
RODD is a historic manufacturer established in Australia in 1919, but its hallmarks and product characteristics vary depending on the manufacturing period.
1960s-1970s:
In 1961, the Australian government presented a RODD gold-plated cutlery set as a wedding gift to the then Duke of York (Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth II's second son), which brought significant attention to gold products and made them popular in ordinary households.
1980s:
During this period, luxurious cake servers with hallmarks such as 24 Karat Gold Plate were widely manufactured as gifts.
End of Production:
After mergers with other companies, RODD ended its manufacturing history in 1991. This is a vintage item.
