↓About Tosa Ryu
The right material for the right place
Traditionally, wood was utilized according to its inherent properties, such as cherry wood for floors and cedar for exterior walls. Cypress has a high oil content, making it suitable for products used near water, while cherry wood, with its fine grain, can wash clothes without damaging them, as seen in washboards. Chestnut wood is heat-resistant, and camphor wood is suitable for products that leverage its insect-repellent properties against pests that damage clothing. Tosa Ryu creates products that harness these characteristics of wood.
Natural Drying
It has recently become known that artificially drying wood with desiccants can not only diminish the tree's natural functions but also expose the human body to harmful substances like insecticides.
Tosa Ryu uses a natural drying process that takes 3 to 6 months. This allows us to create safe products that retain the wood's original functions without losing its inherent properties.
Our Commitment
We have continuously produced products using thinned wood and scraps from Shimanto cypress. By thinning forests, we promote forest health, purify rivers, and enhance the forest's ability to absorb CO2. Simultaneously, by utilizing the resulting thinned wood to create and market wooden products, we engage in green activities known as carbon offsetting.
Furthermore, by using local Shimanto cypress, we minimize the extra energy load required for long-distance transportation. We strive to reduce waste as much as possible by reusing byproducts of manufacturing, such as scraps, leaves, collected wood, and driftwood, thereby suppressing new CO2 consumption.
Tosa Ryu transforms its responsibility in handling wood into products and activities, dedicating itself to developing products that are useful, bright, and comfortable for everyday life.
