"Luftkometen" 70s Linen Handmade Patch
Luftkometen Embroidered Patch This is a blue patch with the text Luftkometen embroidered on it. Luftkometen is German for sky comet (Luft = sky/air, Kometen = comet). This patch is an item from the Berliner Luftkometen, an amateur artist collective active in Berlin, Germany, in the 1970s. The patch is made by wrapping a thick core material with blue linen canvas and embroidering the outline and text with white thread. In East Germany at the time, many artist collectives were supported by the state, and this group was organized as part of their cultural activities. The simple blue background with white embroidery as the group's logo is said to be a common style in Germany (especially around Berlin, including the former East Germany) from the 1950s to the 1970s. Items designed from Germany's transitions, such as division, socialism and capitalism, and multi-ethnicity, have a unique atmosphere different from those of Western developed countries. However, that uniqueness can also be considered cool. We selected this item hoping it would stimulate the creativity of designers.
