The P-coat used by the U.S. Navy was adopted as a coat for non-commissioned officers. It is made of a high-density wool fabric called KERSEY, which has a higher wool density than melton and excellent airtightness, providing outstanding warmth. The material has a substantial feel.
The double-breasted front buttons are designed to be fastened on either side to block wind from any direction on the ship's deck. It features a convertible collar that can be worn up or down, offering two styling options. A hidden button under the collar allows the neck to be closed for enhanced cold protection.
The front features traditional U.S. NAVY anchor buttons, with hand warmer pockets on both sides and inner pockets that vary in specification depending on the era. A center vent in the back allows for ease of movement.
The dark navy color is widely appealing. The color was changed from navy to black after the 1970s.
