Log Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation ? Inoculated with Spawn, Spawn Viable, Includes Guide to Log Shiitake Mushroom Cultivation, Cultivation from Horizontal Laying
Inoculated in mid-March
Currently in resting phase
Fungal colonization is proceeding well
The white growth is proof of healthy shiitake mycelium.
After purchase, you can proceed to the final resting phase and begin cultivation.
~Our Cultivation Management~
? Quercus acutissima logs harvested on December 17, 2025
? Inoculation with shiitake spawn (Nikumaru strain) from February 18 to late March 2026
? Inoculated logs are currently in the resting phase
? Final resting phase
? Harvesting
? Logs are dried for approximately 2 months from felling to inoculation (step ?). Insufficient drying will inhibit the growth of shiitake mycelium.
We have seen people inoculate logs immediately after felling, but this will absolutely result in failure.
Also, we do not skimp on the spawn plugs, using plenty of them.
? Once the resting phase is complete, it moves to the final resting phase (step ?) and then to harvesting (step ?).
? The sign for the final resting phase is when mycelial patterns become visible on the cut ends of the logs.
We cultivate our shiitake mushrooms this way at home and harvest a large quantity.
We highly recommend this method for anyone interested in cultivating shiitake mushrooms on logs!^_^
~Shipping Method~
To prevent drying, the logs will be wrapped in damp newspaper, placed in a plastic bag, and shipped in a used cardboard box.
