Sakura Kobo Ocarina SF (Soprano F) Ceramic - Sakura Kobo
This is a Sakura Kobo Ocarina, Soprano F key. The maker is Hitoshi Okazaki. Sound output has been confirmed.
The following is quoted from the Ocarina House website:
Sakura Kobo ocarinas are extremely high in their completeness as musical instruments, and it is no exaggeration to call them 'earth pipe organs.' When playing ensembles with Sakura Kobo ocarinas, it creates the illusion that people are singing. They can be said to be instruments with very high musical expressiveness.
The shape is somewhat flat, making it easy to hold and fit in the hand.
They produce sound very well even with gentle breaths, making a 'po' sound, but to fully bring out the quality of Sakura Kobo, you need to apply a certain amount of breath pressure in the higher registers. While not as much breath pressure is required as for Aketa or Night ocarinas, it is an instrument that demands a reasonable lung capacity.
If you can blow with sufficient breath, the high notes (Mi and Fa) will sound clear and resonant without needing to change the angle much, unlike other instruments where you have to be mindful of the angle and breath volume.
Unusually, this is a 'bisque fired' ocarina. Standard ocarinas are 'unglazed,' but Sakura Kobo ocarinas are glazed after being bisque fired and then fired again at high temperatures. Therefore, they have the characteristic of producing more cohesive notes compared to other ocarinas.
