Same-day shipping [Fully painted Gunpla] MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam [Jet Pack]
This is a fully painted, completed model of the MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam.
Purchased new in 2024.
Completed over more than half a year while working on other kits.
With the image of realistic heaviness in mind, the white and gray parts are painted with a gradient.
Considerable time was spent on surface preparation, with noticeable parting lines and sink marks being finished with #1000 grit sandpaper before painting. (See images) Many completed models still have parting lines, which I personally find very bothersome, so I focused my efforts on this aspect.
Gold plated parts that were bothersome have also been repainted.
Edge highlighting was done using about three types of sanding blocks, including those from Argofile. (See images)
The frame was painted with Star Bright Iron after a black primer.
The white parts were primed with Mecha-Surf Heavy, followed by multiple thin layers of Gaia EX White, carefully applied in a gradient. The gradient was kept light, leaving a bit of the primer showing, to add to the sense of heaviness. I believe the result achieved the intended expression.
Brighter parts were painted after a white primer.
More decals create a more realistic feel, so they were applied all over the body with a focus on a natural look.
Over 10 types of dedicated and general-purpose decals were used, all with Mark Setter.
The entire body has a generous amount of decals.
The Gurren Kobo jetpack can be attached without modification. Although the craftsmanship of this Chinese-made product is rough, the plated texture is good. (It has under-gates, but gate marks are unavoidable.)
The LED can be lit with a magnetic switch, offering 3 different lighting patterns.
Batteries are included.
The top coat was applied with a semi-gloss finish, which I believe is the golden ratio based on my past builds. The moderate gloss creates a realistic feel.
Spraying after assembly inevitably leads to missed spots and unevenness, so although it's a lot of work, all decals were applied and parts were top-coated individually before assembly. (See images) I believe very few people go to such lengths for their top coats.
This is a popular kit that can be considered the definitive Strike Freedom, and considerable effort was put into the gradient painting and removal of parting lines.
This build was quite challenging, and I don't anticipate building this kit again, so those interested in purchasing are encouraged to do so soon.
