The long spiral black part at the base of the cuff (ankle) leash is its biggest feature and prevents tangling around your leg. Other brands have shorter parts. Since using the Helix, I've had significantly fewer tangles around my leg.

Photo 3:
The surface has been changed from the old model's rough, high-friction cord to a smooth, natural bio-resin material that slides well. It no longer hurts even if it gets tangled between your legs or toes and is pulled while being tumbled by a wave. It also has less water resistance.

The black spiral helix cord inside the leash, which gives the product its name, prevents twisting and makes it harder to snap, preventing tangles around your ankle. I once had to swim back a long way because my leash snapped, but since switching to Helix, it hasn't snapped, so it seems highly durable.
