Antique Stanley Bed Rock No 605 Type 5 Jack Plane 1911 Patent Vintage Tool
Antique Stanley Bed Rock No. 605 Type 5 Jack Plane – Circa 1911 Offered here is an early Stanley Bed Rock No. 605 smooth-bottom jack plane, manufactured by Stanley Rule & Level Co. of New Britain, Connecticut. The casting is clearly marked “BED ROCK” and “No. 605.” Beneath the frog are the two early patent dates: PAT'D APR. 2. 95 APR. 19. 10 Other period-correct features include the flat-top Bed Rock body, tall front knob, early Bed Rock frog system and Stanley-marked cutter. The cutter is stamped “STANLEY / NEW BRITAIN / CONN. / U.S.A.” and retains substantial usable length. This is the smooth-bottom 605, not the corrugated 605C. The plane is being sold in as-found vintage condition and has intentionally not been heavily restored or refinished. It shows age-appropriate finish loss, oxidation, scratches, staining and wear from more than a century of use. Original black japanning remains over much of the body, and both wooden handles show significant age and finish wear. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CONDITION ISSUES: One cheek of the plane has an approximately 1/4-inch square hole through it, as clearly shown in the photographs. Its location does not appear to interfere with the plane's mechanical operation, but it is a permanent modification to the casting and is being fully disclosed. The lever cap has a small nick/chip...
