Adapter to charge Yaesu Radio VX-3 with a mobile battery
This is a DIY adapter that uses a Chinese-made boost DC/DC converter to charge the Yaesu VX-3 with a smartphone mobile battery.
It's convenient because you can share your smartphone's mobile battery without carrying the handheld charger.
Operation has been confirmed with an actual VX-3 unit.
Based on catalog specifications, the VX-2 is also likely compatible.
Please note that the plug will not fit transceivers from the same company such as VX-6 and FT-1D, nor ICOM or Kenwood products.
To use, simply connect it to your mobile battery and plug it into the DC jack of your handheld radio to start charging. The output voltage is set slightly high at 6.3V. Additionally, a component is incorporated to cut off current if it exceeds 0.5A on the 6V side, preventing unexpected accidents.
As a precaution during use, since the voltage is boosted using a DC/DC converter, approximately 1A of current may flow through the USB terminal (5V side). In this case, charging from a PC's USB port may not function properly. Also, please try to keep your handheld radio powered OFF while charging. Charging while in receive mode may exceed the output current limit or generate switching noise that degrades reception quality. Furthermore, please understand that transmission during charging is impossible due to current limitations and the risk of feedback.
The LED color may vary depending on stock. Please be aware of this in advance.
The DC/DC converter and other components undergo a 1-day operational test to ensure stable performance. Components for improving voltage quality and protection during short circuits are sourced domestically.
Please Note: Recently, there has been an increase in purchases of this adapter for purposes other than charging. In such cases, please proceed at your own risk. We do not offer support.
