How to tie a string-type pre-tied obi (3 steps)
Wrap the body part
Wrap the body part of the obi around your body.
Cross the attached strings at your back and tie them securely in front (underneath the obi), then tuck them inside.
Insert the taiko part
Insert the metal fitting (plastic spatula) of the pre-shaped taiko part between the obi and the datejime at your back.
Tie the taiko strings
Bring the strings attached to the taiko part to the front and tie them above the obi.
Layering the obi-age and obi-jime over this will hide the strings from view, resulting in a perfect finish.
This is a string-type that only requires inserting the fitting and tying the strings. Unlike Velcro types, it allows for fine adjustments according to your body shape, making it comfortable all day long and less prone to coming undone. Even those unfamiliar with dressing can achieve a beautiful finish in about 5 minutes.
